Mafias descend at VHIMW for Arjun Khanna's show

It was after five years that Arjun Khanna was to showcase his collection in the capital, and we must confess, the wait was worth the show. Kick-starting the third edition of the Van Heusen India Mens Week 2011, Khanna displayed a line that marked the designer’s signature style that spells loud and out – vintage.

Using vintage watches as accessories to depict the timelessness of the line, Khanna made full use of his forte – tailoring – to come with a collection that comprised of everything from well-fitted pants, to long and short jackets,  and the kurtas. Leather patchwork and detailing was visible in the collection, as was the use of metallic buckles.

“It was a spoof on the action men and superheroes, and a take on the real mafias and Sherlock Holmes,” said Khanna about his collection. Leather gun holsters, vintage cameras, fedoras and hunter boots were smartly incorporated to highlight the very theme of the show.

The one silhouette, however, that managed to draw maximum attention was the Patiala salwar for men. Teamed with jackets and waistcoats, these pleated lowers had pockets sewn in, to give them a utilitarian touch.

The colour palette was predominantly black, with sprinkles of charcoal grey, red, blue and white.
