West Midnapore: CPM's zonal office at Keshpur in West Midnapore district has been set on fire. Some CPM supporters are believed to be trapped on the second floor of the Jamshed Ali Bhavan building.
Initial report say around 100 people barged into the office premises, ransacked it and set the ground floor on fire.
The identity of the attackers has still not been confirmed but some reports claim that Trinamool activists, who were taking out a rally near the office, attacked it. Trinamool, however, has denied any involvement in the attack.
Reports also suggest that the attack was launched allegedly after some CPM supporters were seen with arms at the office. This could not be confirmed.
Rapid Action Force has been rushed to the site. Police had to resort to lathicharge to control the crowds.
