NEW DELHI: The selection committee meeting to announce the Indian team for the remaining one-dayers at the Ferozeshah Kotla on Monday was nearly cancelled amidst misunderstanding and drama. Newly-elected selector from North Zone, Mohinder Amarnath was not allowed to enter the stadium, delaying the meeting which was supposed to take place in the afternoon.
Amarnath was carrying BCCI's central accreditation card but he had forgotten his local pass. As a result, the security didn't allow him to enter the stadium as the card couldn't be swiped at the turnstiles.
The former Delhi batsman was seen walking out of the stadium towards the parking lot in a huff at been denied entry about half an hour before the match. Chairman of selectors Krishnamachari Srikkanth followed him into the parking lot, trying to pacify an irate Amarnath.
He walked in later, local pass in tow, to finally get into the stadium at around eight in the evening. The selection meeting finally managed to get underway at about an hour later.
"It is unfortunate that a person of Amarnath's stature was denied entry but rules are rules. Security norms here can't be flouted. At the end of the day the matter was amicably resolved," aDDCA official said.
