CA step up hunt for new coach

Cricket Australia insist they are "thinking globally" in their search for a new coach and have drafted in more help to aid their hunt for Tim Nielsen's replacement.
Days after appointing former Wallaby and Australian Rugby Union high performance manager Pat Howard to the new role of general manager, CA today confirmed sports management consultancy Crank Sports would assist both Howard and CA chief executive James Sutherland in the hunt for a new head coach.

Sutherland said Crank Sports had been appointed to the recruitment role due to "their highly specific expertise", and it appears CA are taking great care to not make any errors in their recruitment of Nielsen's successor.
"This is a pivotal role and we are thinking globally and also outside the square - international success as a player and/or coach may well be worthwhile attributes - but we will look far more broadly in assessing individuals against the specific criteria we regard as necessary for success in this role," Sutherland said.
"We want a new head coach in place as soon as possible but by the same token, it is more important to get the right person for this critical role than it is to be driven by a self-imposed deadline.
"The nature of the role is different to what it has been... This new head coach role requires an ability to work with multiple relationships outside the team - through state cricket and at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane - as well as overseeing the coaching personnel around the team."
Australia have been without a permanent head coach since Nielsen stood down last month, after declining the opportunity to re-apply for the post which had been expanded following a comprehensive review of the Australia set-up.
The review, led by Don Argus, was prompted by Australia's 3-1 Ashes defeat to England on home soil last winter.
Australia's cricket team have never had a foreign head coach but ex-South Africa coach Mickey Arthur, now at the helm of WA cricket, is being touted as a prime candidate for the post vacated by Nielsen following last month's series win over Sri Lanka.
Former Warriors coach Tom Moody, current Australian batting mentor Justin Langer and former NSW boss Steve Rixon are others in the running.
