Teacher search panels for Presidency

Calcutta, July 23: The Presidency University mentor group will draw up search committees for all subjects that will recruit new teachers and consider on merit the applications of existing teachers.
The 150-odd existing teachers should be given the option to re-apply to the university, the mentor group believes. Those who do will be screened along with the other candidates. The rest will be transferred to other government colleges.

“All the teachers will be given option forms. Those interested in continuing at Presidency University will have to... face an interview,” Sugata Bose, chairperson of the mentor group, said today.
Bose announced the decision to set up the search committees for the nearly 20 subjects after a meeting with four group members — Ashoke Sen, Himadri Pakrasi, Isher Judge Ahluwalia and Swapan Chakravorty.
“Our first priority is to draw up a procedure to recruit faculty of very high standards,” Bose said.
The five mentors called on chief minister Mamata Banerjee today. “We wanted to give her a feel of the recommendations we are going to make in our report, which we will submit by early August,” Bose said after the 45-minute meeting.
The committees will select the teachers but will refer their decisions to the university for ratification.
