Mumbai: Unable to cope with a chronic spinal cord ailment, an assistant professor with a city college committed suicide on Friday, police said.
Rachna Shah (42), who worked as Assistant Professor at Shah And Anchor Kutchhi Engineering College here, allegedly jumped to death from the seventh floor of the college on Friday morning.
She left behind a suicide note. "In the note, she says she was suffering from spinal-cord pain for the past few years and had been undergoing treatment. But the pain aggravated day by day," said S Khaire, Senior Inspector at Trombay Police Station.
"The note further mentions that she was killing herself as she could no longer bear the pain," Khaire said.
Shah had been working in the college for the past 12 years, Khaire said.
She is survived by her husband and a daughter.
The body had been sent for post-mortem and as a suicide note had been left, a foul play was not suspected in the incident, Khaire added.
