Dehradun: Fifteen people lost their life and more than a dozen were grievously injured when a bus they were travelling from Tyuni to Dehradun fell 400 feet into a river while the driver was reversing the bus on Sunday.
At the time of the accident there were around 60 passengers on board. The accident happened when the driver was negotiating a sharp turn. A hunt was on to find out missing persons, if any, police said.
Until sun down, 9 people were rescued while 36 others are feared to have drowned. Uttarakhand's Chief Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank reached the site late evening and announced an ex gratia of 1 lakh for the deceased.
Nishank ordered a Magisterial probe into the accident. He visited the hospitals to see the injured and promised them best medical treatment.
