Actor and son of TDP founder NT. Rama Rao, N. Balakrishna, on Sunday said that he would join active politics from the next Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters during the one-day star cricket match here, organised at the RDT Cricket Stadium, he said that he would contest the next elections, when asked whether he would enter active politics.
Earlier, he had said that he was already in politics having campaigned for the TDP in the last Assembly elections.
When asked if he would consider contesting from Gudivada as well as Hindupur, just as N.T Rama Rao had chosen to do, he said that he had fans across the State and would consider contesting from anywhere, which would benefit the party.
Mr. Balakrishna denied having any wish to become the Chief Minister, but said that it was certain that he would enter active politics soon.
TDP leaders such as Uravakonda MLA Payyavula Keshav, B.K Parthasarathi and former Anantapur MP Kalava Sreenivasulu, present at the stadium, welcomed Mr. Balakrishna's decision.
Mr. Parthasarathi said that as the TDP leaders of the district they would extend their cooperation if Mr. Balakrishna chose to contest the polls in 2014. Earlier, Mr. Balakrishna said that he would contest only for Assembly seat and not for Parliament, as he wanted to directly serve people through the State government.
Hyderabad Staff Reporter writes: Meanwhile, Mr Balakrishna's announcement that he would enter the electoral fray was received cautiously by party leaders.
During an informal chat with mediapersons before the 2009 elections the actor had stated that he would contest but did not go ahead to do it though he had campaigned for TDP vigorously. “He may opt to contest from Rayalaseema as he has strong fan following in the region. But, people in any region will support him as he is son of NTR. His entry will infuse enthusiasm in the party rank and file and will help improve its chances”, felt Telugu Yuvatha president Beeda Ravichandra Yadav, when contacted.
Every party leader would welcome the development as he would be an asset to party, polit-bureau member from Rayalaseema K. Srinivasulu said.
