Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch on Monday arrested two brothers in connection with the murder of an alleged drug peddler.
Abdul Kurtoos and Mohammad Asgar were apprehended for allegedly killing Nooruddin Sheikh (29) when he was driving towards suburban Sion in his car on Friday, they said.
Joint Commissioner of Police Himanshu Roy said the motive behind the brutal murder was old rivalry between the arrested duo and the victim.
He said the arrested persons harbored a grouse against Sheikh as he refused Rs 10,000 demanded by their mother in 2006 when he was lodged in jail.
In 2009, Asgar and Sheikh had engaged in a fight after the former saw a photograph of his sister-in-law in Sheikh's mobile.
According to police, when Sheikh was traveling in the car, the duo followed him on a bike and shot him after breaking the window glass of the car.
The arrested duo pulled the victim out of the car and then repeatedly stabbed him which resulted in his death on the spot, police said.
