New Delhi: Politician Amar Singh has been granted bail, and will be allowed to leave Tihar Jail. He's been asked to return on Monday to a Delhi court where he is being tried for allegedly bribing three other MPs to vote for the government during a trust vote in 2008.
Mr Singh, currently a Rajya Sabha MP, was arrested earlier this month and sent to Tihar Jail. He was moved to AIIMS this week after he complained that he was unwell. Mr Singh had a kidney transplant last year, and his doctors and lawyers say various medical complications continue to dog him.
While granting him interim bail, the judge asked for two lakhs to be handed over as surety. "The accused person, a known MP, cannot be shown extra benefits; however he also has to be treated as a human being," said the judge explaining the decision to allow Mr Singh to return to his Delhi home.
