Hiding under a rock, Norway girl sent text messages to mother about attack

London:  A teenage girl, who was on the Utoya Island when gunman Anders Behring Breivik launched his deadly attack at the youth camp, sent her mother text messages as she hid under a rock.

Julie Bremnes, 16, called her mother as she took shelter with friends under a rock on the island of Utoya when Breivik started his rampage, the Daily Express reported.

For the next 90 minutes, Julie kept her mother Marianne, 46, updated by text messages.

She feared she would be shot if the gunman heard her speaking.

In her first text she said: "Mommy, tell police that they must hurry. People are dying here!"

Marianne Bremnes, a politician, tried to keep her daughter's spirits up and asked for "a sign of life" every five minutes.

Julie and her three friends were later rescued by police.
