Nottingham :Kapil Dev wants to see World Cup star Yuvraj Singh in India's XI for the second Test starting here at Trent Bridge on Friday.
"Somehow, Yuvraj must play. I am not sure who should make way for him, but I want to see Yuvraj in India's XI," Kapil told MiD DAY.
Kapil cited Yuvraj's bowling abilities as the reason for his inclusion, "If Yuvraj is around, he can bowl 10 to 12 overs a day. He will also add a lot of depth in the batting department. He must be high on confidence after his World Cup success, and must be raring to go. Yuvraj should be encouraged to bowl as much as possible in the nets, and make the team as the fifth bowler," said India's first World Cup-winning skipper.
Kapil, who launched a scathing attack on MS Dhoni for taking his gloves off and bowl at Lord's, said Yuvraj's inclusion would deny the skipper to repeat his 'disrespectful' act. "With Yuvraj in the side, we won't see a mockery of Test cricket, or in other words, watch Dhoni as a bowler. One would never know why he (Dhoni) took his gloves off and bowled. Does he realise the value of being an Indian captain? I think not," Kapil fumed.
The 52-year old reminded Dhoni that 'it was normal' for a seamer to bowl 30 overs in the day. "So what if Zaheer Khan is injured? Praveen Kumar and Ishant Sharma could have bowled 30 overs a day. Please look up the scorecards - myself and others did so in Tests at Melbourne and Adelaide. If you are an Indian pacer, you have to bowl 30 overs a day - there's no excuse," he said. Kapil further attacked India's performance at Lord's: "I don't find any reason why there is lethargic attitude for a World No 1 team. India did not put in enough effort to save the Test on the final day," Kapil concluded.
