Mumbai: Ten days after arresting Income Tax Commissioner Daya Shankar, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered cash and properties worth over Rs.4 crore, an official said on Wednesday.
The CBI has also recovered Rs. 2.01 crore belonging to Shankar from his chartered accountant in Lucknow.
Shanker's assets include a flat and an office in Lucknow, flats in Patiala, Delhi and Ghaziabad and a plot of agricultural land in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh.
The CBI also recovered cash and fixed deposits worth over Rs. 30 lakh.
The total assets and cash recovered so far amount to over Rs. 4.20 crore and further investigations are on, the official said.
Shankar had been nabbed red-handed at his office here on August 29 by the CBI while accepting a bribe of Rs. 2,00,000 from a private company in return for issuing a favourable order in a pending matter.
A CBI court remanded him to police custody till September 12.
