New Delhi: Home Minister P Chidambaram said today in parliament that intelligence on possible terror attacks was shared with the Delhi Police in July. At this stage, however, he said it's not possible to identify who is responsible for today's bomb blast in Delhi which has killed 10 people and injured 56.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha two hours after a bomb exploded in a briefcase at the Delhi High Court in the heart of the capital, Mr Chidambaram regretted that the "tragic incident" had taken place despite the Delhi Police being on high alert. "Intelligence agencies constantly share intelligence inputs with Delhi Police. Intelligence pertaining to threats emanating from certain groups was shared with Delhi Police in July, 2011," the Home Minister said.
The High Court had also been targeted in May this year when a bomb exploded in a parking lot ; nobody was injured.
Mr Chidambaram acknowledged that Delhi is a recurring target for terrorist attacks. When parliament is in session, he added, the capital is automatically placed on high-alert.
The Home Minister said that the case will be handled by the National Investigating Agency (NIA) and that the government is "determined to track down the perpetrators of this horrific crime and bring them to justice."
