Manali: One person was killed and at least seven others are feared to have been washed away in a cloudburstnear Himachal Pradesh's Manali town, an official said here on Thursday.
The cloudburst occurred at around 12.30 am on Wednesday in upper Manali, about 18 km from here that also left twenty-two labourers injured, Sub-divisional Magistrate Balbir Thakur said.
One body has been recovered so far, while the remaining seven are still missing in the tragedy, Deputy Commissioner, Kullu B N Nanta said, adding that all the victims were construction workers engaged in the ongoing Rohtang Tunnel project.
Nearly 130 labourers were living in as many 30 to 35 temporary houses, out of which 22 managed to survive with minor injuries, he said.
Massive search operations have been launched and an alert has been sounded up to the nearby Larji Dam to search the missing labourers, Nanta said.
The accident happened just after they returned from work to their base camps in Dhundi.
