Vault B of Kerala's Padmanabhaswamy temple to stay shut for now: SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday continued its stay order on the opening of vault B of Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala.

A bench of Justices R.V. Raveendran and A.K. Patnaik constituted an expert committee to recommend whether the vault should be opened. The five-member committee has been asked to file its reports to the Supreme Court.

The committee, which would prepare a scheme of conservation and preservation of the historical temple, would be headed by the director general of National Museum, C.V. Anandobose. The other representatives on the panel would be from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The SC said that safety, security and assessment of treasure would also be looked after by the committee.

It also asked the media not to speculate on the worth of assets of the temple before its valuation was done.

The apex court had earlier reserved its interim order on the question of permitting inventory, videography and providing foolproof security to the wealth unearthed from other chambers of the famous temple.
