Do women make bad bosses?

According to a new survey, female bosses are less likely to help women workers get promotions, and are "easily threatened and emotionally unpredictable . True or just plain sexist? Two professionals debate it out...

NO!
Nandita Rao, Lawyer, 36

"I don't agree that women make terrible bosses. As a female lawyer in a profession that is largely male-dominated, I have found friendship, companionship, and professional help from fellow female lawyers. Women tend to be supportive leaders, and I have experienced mentoring and encouragement from senior, female judges and lawyers, who have been generous with their advice, whether it's on cracking a tough case, or finding work-home balance.
It's your female colleagues who will listen patiently, between cases, as you discuss a problem, or who will make you laugh if you've had a tough day. That's not to say that the men, who occupy 80 percent of my workplace as fellow lawyers, judges and clients, haven't been good to me; it's just that the women have helped me feel more at home.

YES!
Rupa Mahajan, Interpreter, 36

"First, I must acknowledge the professional, 'sorted' female bosses out there. It's a pity there are so few of you around. When I read the study findings that described women seniors as 'competitive' and 'cliquey', I couldn't help but agree.
More often than not, Queen Bees are insecure and unable to accept the success of another woman. Perhaps it has something to do with limited top management opportunities, which makes these women insecure, but it also makes them proof that women are other women's worst enemies at the workplace. That said, the 'ideal boss' is rare, and one has to adjust to every superior's irregularitiesboth male and female. It's important to stay calm and 'deal' in today's cut-throat work environment and if your boss gets unbearable, just leave.
