High Court orders CBI probe into CMOs' murders

Lucknow:  A two judge bench of the Allahabad high court have ordered a CBI investigation into the murders of two CMOs of the family welfare department Dr Vinod Arya and Dr B P Singh.

The  doctors' deaths are believed to be linked into to an ongoing CBI probe into financial irregularities in the implementation of  the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in UP. The CBI has to complete the investigation within the next three months

The Mayawati government has already ordered a CBI probe into the murders of the two doctors, as well as the death of deputy CMO YS Sachan. The order came barely a week after the CBI was asked to investigate the mysterious death Sachan in a Lucknow jail.

But sources had claimed there was a deliberate attempt to narrow the scope of the probe, as the Chief Minister had ordered the CBI to investigate the financial irregularities of only the Lucknow CMO Family Welfare's office, and not the entire state.

The BSP government has already been facing attacks from Opposition due to the alleged scam. Two state ministers, Babu Singh Khushwaha and Anant Kumar Mishra, have already resigned on moral grounds due to the controversy.
